Food Truck Park in the Heart of KL city
What is TAPAK?
Kuala Lumpur has adopted the food truck park concept which had been trending in other capital cities around the world. TAPAK (Urban Street Dining) is one of the biggest and most popular so far. TAPAK was started in Jalan Ampang, in between Corus hotel and Bank of China, in an open air carpark. They gather around 20-30 food trucks every night and offer a nice seating area in the middle.
Once the sun goes down and the KL city lights start to flicker all around, the atmosphere is really nice in TAPAK. You can even catch a glimpse of the Twin Towers in the background which offers this place dining with great views. Flaming Wheels has been one of the pioneers in TAPAK and we must say is the most fun location we've had till now. Our evening usually starts with a visit from those who finish work and want to grab a bite before getting stuck in the KL traffic or they simple take away some food home. As it gets darker, we get bigger groups gathering for dinner with friends and family. There are also number of tourists visiting every evening, sampling all the local delicacies in one spot.
Food Trucks Offer
This food truck heaven in the KL's city centre is also suitable for those coming out for some supper. The choice of trucks varies from local delicacies such as satays, fried noodles, nasi lemak to other Asian cuisines such as Korean, Vietnamese and Thai. And there are number of Western and International cuisine options; Mexican, Middle Eastern, American, Italian, etc. TAPAK truly tantalizes all your senses; BBQ smell in the air, flickering lights, amazing flavours as well as live music buskers that entertain the crowds. There are also varieties of trucks offering refreshing drinks, from coconut shakes to mango smoothies.
The best part is that you can get all that for around RM 15-20 and it is a great alternative to being inside the shopping mall. On most evenings it is pretty cooling as the afternoon rain usually lowers the temperatures.
We look forward to more of these food truck parks opening around Malaysia as the food truck industry grows. It is a great way to take the Malaysian street food to the next level with a cleaner and more organised vendors.
You can find Flaming Wheels in TAPAK on most evenings from around 6pm till midnight. For more locations do check our Flaming Wheels Facebook page
