CHICKEN WINGS ALA FLAMING WHEELS
Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing with you a few popular recipes for some of our more popular dishes. Today, we are going to start with Malaysia’s all-time favourite, the chicken wing!
Chicken wings, as we all know, come two to a bird. But in industry terms, each bird produces four edible wings — as well as two throwaway parts.
Whole wings are available in supermarkets, but usually they're cut in two places. The first cut is where the drumette — a mini drumstick of sorts that connects the wing to the breast meat — meets what's called the "flat." The second cut separates the "flat" and the "tip" of the wing.
For our BBQ Hot Buffalo Wings, you would need a three quarter cup of flour, half a teaspoon each of cayenne pepper, garlic powder and salt, 20 chicken wings, half a cup of melted butter and half a cup of hot chili sauce.
What you have to do is line a baking sheet with aluminium foil, and lightly grease it with cooking spray. You then place the flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and salt into a resalable plastic bag, and shake it all together to mix. Add the chicken wings, then seal and toss until the wings are well coated with the flour mixture. Place the wings onto the prepared baking sheet, and place it into the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
Whisk together the melted butter and hot sauce in a small bowl. Dip the wings into the butter mixture, and place it back on the baking sheet. Bake it in the preheated oven until the chicken is no longer pink in the centre, and is crispy on the outside. This should take about 45 minutes. Turn the wings over halfway during cooking so they cook evenly.
The result will be delicious oven backed chicken wings that will satisfy your cravings for something indulgent. If you’re feeling a little lazy to go through this entire process, your other option is to rush over to the Flaming Wheels Food Truck when you see it at your area. A delicious plate of BBQ Hot Buffalo Wings tossed in a spicy Mexican sauce is priced at only RM14.
